#1 North Caroline (0-0) at #9 Wicomico (0-0)-6:30pm-The 2-Time defending Bayside Conference champs, the Bulldogs, are looking to stay on top for another year. With two Division I players and a solid core of players around them, the Bulldogs should be able to ease into the season with a win. Wicomico will be hungry and play with a chip on the shoulder but their Defense which is a point of emphasis has a lot of work to do to be able to limit a team like North Caroline. The Indians who will be undermanned could be a little better this year but are another year away.
#5 Cambridge-SD (0-0) at #3 Queen Anne’s (0-0)-7pm-This is the Overtime Live Game of the Week on 94-3 WINX-FM and sfmsports.net, Pre-Game 6:45pm, Kickoff at 7pm. Listen to the game HERE
The Lions lost 20 of 22 and Cambridge lost 16 of 22 from last year’s teams. This might be the best chance in the trenches that the Vikings have had in a while to compete against a top 2A team in the Conference. The Vikings also have the advantage at the skill spots including returning a Senior QB. There are a lot of reasons to pick Cambridge. However going to Centreville is not an easy task and while the reason is flawed, I will go on Queen Anne’s past success. Until I see it from the Vikings who have a lot of new players as well, I will lean Queen Anne’s but do not be surprised if Cambridge pulls out the win.
#13 Snow Hill (0-0) at #2 Kent Island (0-0)-7pmThe Buccaneers should have no problem against an Eagles squad that does boast improved numbers from previous years and some talent but is still a long ways away from competing with a Top 2A team.
#12 Washington (0-0) at #5 Easton (0-0)-6:30pm-The Warriors despite question marks in the trenches have if anything the numbers over the Jags who return 12 starters but are extremely thin in the trenches. Easton also has better skill players especially with Tyler Poulson having transferred from Washington to Parkside. Easton should roll in this one.
#8 JM Bennett (0-0) at #10 Colonel Richardson (0-0)-6pm-This ought to be a good game and a good litmus test for both teams who both return QBs. Bennett will have some advantage in the trenches and that’s where this game will be won. Neither team boasts a major advantage of skill position players. It should be a close one and could come down to the end with the cliché of fewest mistakes wins.
Arcadia (VA) (0-1) at #11 Stephen Decatur (0-0)-6pm-Decatur returns few players and has no experience at QB while the Firebirds have a game under their belt putting up 36 points albeit in a loss. Decatur certainly has a shot with Bob Knox back on the sideline but it’s about the players on the field ultimately and I think the Seahawks come up short in their home opener. Here is hoping they get it done for Knox who missed last year to attend to a personal family health situation.
#7 Kent County (0-0) at #4 Parkside (0-0)-Noon-The Rams have big expectations this season and for good reason with the talent they boast especially on the offensive line and at RB. Kent took a huge loss with QB/ATH Marcquan Greene’s graduation and while their offense should still be adequate, they take a step back this year. If Parkside’s for real it should not be too competitative for too long.
