Bayside Picks: Week 2

September 8, 2017

#3 Queen Anne’s (1-0) at #5 Easton (1-0)-6:30pm-This is the Overtime Live Game of the Week on 94-3 WINX-FM and sfmsports.net, Pre-Game 6:45pm, Kickoff at 7pm. Listen to the game HERE

I know where I have the rankings (read ‘What We Learned’) however despite the advantage Queen Anne’s may have on the lines, I don’t think at least defensively it’s as great now as what it may be later in the year with more experience. Easton has arguably the best QB in the Conference with a lot of skill guys and enough experience on the O-Line I think they pull it out and avenge last year’s 6 point loss.

#4 Parkside (1-0) at #1 North Caroline (1-0)-6:30pm-We didn’t have to wait long to see if Parkside is the real deal, they will get that opportunity against one of the Bayside’s best. This ought to be a very good game. While I very much believe Parkside can win this game and while they are faster and I believe as skilled maybe slightly more skilled and can match Caroline’s size, they need to do it first. Until the South wins a meaningful game against the North I can’t pick it. I have burned in the past. I would love to see some new headlines and different teams in the mix. If Parkside is to win they need to make some plays in the air with QB Andrew Smith and WR Tyler Poulson because North Caroline as always will be geared up to stop the run not that it will be easy. The defense needs to step up from previous years and make sure David Bailey doesn’t make big plays. They also need to avoid special team’s mistakes that plagued them in the past. NC HC James McCormick is great at 2nd half adjustments. Bulldogs win in a close one.

#9 Wicomico (0-1) at #11 Stephen Decatur (1-0)-6pm-Last week Decatur routed Arcadia 44-0, Wicomico fell to North Caroline 44-0. This should be a close game as both are not as good or bad as the scores indicated. This will give us a much better gauge of things in the South after this game. Based on all the mistakes and penalties last week from Wicomico I have to give a slight edge to Decatur at home with Bob Knox back on the sidelines but certainly not surprised if the Indians pull out the win.

Woodbridge (Bridgeville, DE, Henlopen Conference) (0-0) at #6 Cambridge-SD (0-1)-6pm-Both teams lost a lot of guys in the trenches from last year but return skill guys. This will be Woodbridge’s first game of the season. Cambridge played Queen Anne’s last week. Woodbridge however is the Delaware Division II State Champion. I love the fact these two are playing each other. Even though it’s a road game I am giving the advantage to the Blue Raiders with their championship run last year and their skill guys that return. They also play in I think a very good Henlopen Conference. Cambridge’s first game last week in terms of trench play was valuable but they will get much more of a challenge at the skill positions.

#7 Kent County (0-1) at #12 Washington (0-1)-6:30pm-Both teams had tough Week 1 opponents. Washington has so few guys in the trenches that they are playing A-11 ball with three linemen. Kent has better numbers and talent on the offensive side of the ball to if anything out score Washington.

#10 Colonel Richardson (0-1) at #13 Snow Hill (0-1)-6pm-This ought to be an interesting game as both teams have better numbers this year. As long as Colonel does not turn over the ball 6 times like last week I think they can pull it out on the road. Don’t be surprised though if Snow Hill gets their first win since October 2014.

Saturday Game:
#2 Kent Island (1-0) at #8 JM Bennett (1-0)-Noon-Bennett pulled out a win last week over Colonel but it was ugly and they had no run game. They won’t be able to run this week either and KI is not likely to turn the ball over 6 times. Kent Island is simply a better team all the way around and should have little trouble rolling in this game.

Last Week’s Picks: 6-1
