#7 Easton (1-3) at Southern-Anne Arundel County (0-4)-6:30pm-This is a short week, non-conference game for the Warriors. Both teams have played a pretty tough schedule so far to start the year. Southern has really been reeling on defense this year where Easton’s defense has done a nice job given the injuries on the offensive side of things. I am going to give the edge to Southern with the numbers advantage, playing at home, looking for their first win of the year. Easton’s offense has yet to really find their way consistently since losing Ledford, Butler and Farr. The offense has made too many mistakes especially WR drops. It should be a close one and certainly would not be surprised if Easton won the game.
#11 Washington (1-3) at #8 Wicomico (2-2)-6:30pm-Wicomico hung in with Parkside last week for a while and their defense has played pretty well outside of Week #1. Both teams don’t have big numbers this year but the Indians have played the tougher opponents on their schedule fairly well and won a few games against them where Washington has not been able to compete. The Indians offense needs to have itself a game and they might just in this one; Wi-Hi gets it done.
#4 Parkside (3-1) at #1 Kent Island (4-0)-7pm-This is the Overtime Live Game of the Week on 94-3 WINX-FM and sfmsports.net, Pre-Game 6:45pm, Kickoff at 7pm. Listen to the game HERE
Parkside has a chance at redemption to show how good they are against a top North team and try to pull off the upset. While the Rams are one of the top 2 teams in the South (Bennett also 3-1), I have not seen enough domination against the teams they have defeated to think they can pull off the upset. Kent Island once again has a stingy tough nosed defense that will likely force Parkside to the air much more than they want to go. Rams QB Andrew Smith has developed a nice rapport the last few weeks with TE Tyler Poulson but will he have enough time to throw? Kent Island boasts a strong passing game with an always solid run game this year. The Rams have had too many mistakes on special teams in these kinds of games that also scares me. They do return star RB Nayel Oge this week. KI is at home and wins comfortably.
#6 JM Bennett (3-1) at #13 Snow Hill (0-4)-6pm-The Clippers are a surprising 3-1 but their wins have come against teams with losing records. Still your schedule is your schedule and the Clippers have largely taken care of business against teams they should defeat. I expect Snow Hill despite being winless to give them a game (offense has played well the last two weeks and last week they were down their starting QB and RB) but again the question will be when do they peter out. Bennett pulls away but wouldn’t be surprised if this goes 3.5 quarters before the Clippers take full control.
#9 Stephen Decatur (2-2) at #1 North Caroline (4-0)-6:30pm-The Bulldogs have too much across the board and it likely will be another running clock game unless it ends up being a let down game for the Bulldogs and they start slow but either way they win big.
Nandua, VA (2-3) at #6 Cambridge-SD (1-3)-6:30pm-Not sure you can take anything for granted this year as it truly is a rebuilding year for Cambridge. Nandua may give them a game for a while but with RB Taj Molock, Cambridge ought to be able to score enough against a porous defense to get over the hump. The Vikings have played a tough schedule that they are battle tested enough.
#12 Kent County (1-3) at #3 Queen Anne’s (2-2)-7pm-The Lions have had a tough stretch of games and has lost two straight. However they are at home, fired up after being rolled by North Caroline last week and will be too much in the trenches for Kent County. They will need to contain Kent County RB Silus Phillips who had 5 TDs in their win over Snow Hill last week. Tough one for Kent County who was supposed to have this game at home but because of re-sodding has to play another contest outside of Worton.
#10 Colonel Richardson (1-3) at Arcadia, VA (3-2)-7pm-Not an easy one to pick with the game being against an Eastern Shore of VA team that I don’t know a whole lot about. I feel good about this Colonel team and definitely think they are capable of getting this win albeit on the road. Even though Arcadia has two more wins this year the Colonels have played a tougher schedule in my opinion. Colonel defeated Arcadia in this game 57-15 last year. Not sure it will quite be that lopsided this year but the Colonel’s get it done.
Last Week’s Picks: 6-1
This Season: 23-6
