Bayside Picks: Week 6

October 5, 2017

Friday:

#1 North Caroline (5-0) at #7 Easton (2-3)-6:30pm- This is the Overtime Live Game of the Week on 94-3 WINX-FM and sfmsports.net, Pre-Game 6:15pm, Kickoff at 6:30pm. Listen to the game HERE

Even with a healthy Mason Ledford this would have been a tough game for Easton. The Warriors defense has held up well this year despite the offense averaging just 10.7 points per game since Game 1 and that’s part of the problem. No one has been able to solve the Bulldogs offense and RB David Bailey and while they will no doubt have a good game plan and play tough, Easton will not be able to solve Bailey either. In addition Easton starts a Freshman QB. The Bulldogs should have this one in hand by 3rd quarter if not earlier.

#4 Parkside (3-2) vs. #6 JM Bennett (4-1)-6:30pm-Another game in the Salisbury Championship series. As I wrote in my ‘What We Learned Segment’ the strength of schedule plays a part in this one for me. The Rams have a played a tougher schedule, their opponents record 16-9 versus 11-15 for the Clippers. The Clippers offense has been rolling the last 3 weeks but this will be their toughest test since Kent Island. Bennett has the advantage in the return game but outside of that I lean Rams. I will go with the Rams experience, offensive run game and physicality. Tyler Poulson might be the difference in this one. That all said this ought to be a pretty darn good game and great litmus test game for Bennett.

#5 Cambridge-SD (2-3) at #11 Washington (1-4)-6:30pm-Cambridge RB Taj Molock has 11 TDs in the last two games. The Vikings are starting to get on a roll after a very difficult three week start to the season. The Jags might have had their best offensive game last week in a loss to Wicomico. It might be a closer game than years past but the Vikings are still a better team with more numbers and building confidence.

#8 Wicomico (3-2) at #2 Kent Island (5-0)-7pm-The Buccaneers across the board are the better team and should have no issues against an Indians team that has shown some flashes certainly with their 3 wins but are not in Kent Island’s league.

#13 Snow Hill (0-5) at Nandua, VA (2-4)-7pm-This is one of two likely chances left this season at breaking their 27 game losing streak dating back to October 2014. Taking a look at the schedules and the numbers, my gut tells me Nandua ends up getting the win. Their defense is really bad but their offense will be able to put up enough points to get the job done. They also boast higher numbers as most teams do against the Eagles. Snow Hill hopes to get all their offensive starters back healthy.

Saturday:

#9 Stephen Decatur (2-3) at #3 Queen Anne’s (3-2)-1:30pm-The Lions are in rebuilding mode but have played a tougher schedule and have more offensive fire power than Decatur despite starting a Freshman QB. This could be a game for a half and Decatur is one of the few teams to have won and or played Queen Anne’s tough in Centreville over the years. Decatur’s offense needs to step up and have their best game of the year. The Lions are at home, its homecoming and should roll especially come the second half.

#12 Kent County (1-4) at #10 Colonel Richardson (2-3)-2pm-This is an absolute must win for Colonel who gets this game at home. (Colonel has not defeated Kent since September 3, 2010, a 29-18 win on the road in Worton) Kent is in rebuilding mode but coming off one of their better games of the year albeit in a loss to Queen Anne’s. Kent has played a tougher schedule. This is no gimme game for Colonel and getting off to a fast start and winning the field position and or TO battle will be key. The Colonels have put together a respectable program the last couple of years and should pull it out in a closer game than maybe some would have expected.

Last Week’s Picks: 6-1

This Season: 29-7
