Bayside Picks: Week 7

October 12, 2017

Thursday:

#13 Snow Hill (0-6) at #5 Parkside (3-3)-6:30pm-The perfect elixir for a Rams team coming off a heartbreaking loss at the hands or in this case the leg of one of their Salisbury rivals, JM Bennett. The Rams are bigger, stronger and as fast with more numbers than the Eagles and should roll in this one unless there is a hangover affect from last week.

Friday:

#7 Easton (2-4) at #9 Stephen Decatur (2-4)-6pm-This is the Overtime Live Game of the Week on 94-3 WINX-FM and sfmsports.net, Pre-Game 5:45pm, Kickoff at 6pm. Listen to the game HERE

This is a real tough one to call this week between these two teams. Decatur is still looking to settle in at QB and find their guy and Easton is starting a Freshman QB who has shown positive glimpses. This ought to be a defensive game so naturally turnovers, big plays and field position will definitely be big factors. I am going away from my gut here and going with the Warriors to pull it out. I think their offense is still capable enough of outplaying Decatur and their defense may bend some but I think they can dig in and pull out despite facing two good backs from Decatur in Tah’Jeem Woodland and Devin Waters.

#2 Kent Island at (#20-State Ranking) Oakdale-Frederick (6-0)-6pm-This should be one of the better matchups in the state on Friday. The Bucs bring a balanced offense and a stingy defense against a Bears program that is still relatively young and after a few years of growing pains has grown to be one of the best programs the Frederick, Carroll, Washington County area. The Bears average 41 points a game and are giving up just 11.5 points a game.

Oakdale only brought back 7 starters from last year, 3 on offense and 4 on defense however they rotated 20 guys on offense last year so many reserves still got time that are starting this year. They play 5 to 6 to WRs every game and 4 to 5 RBs. They aren’t big upfront in general but they do feature three guys between 270-300 but they run spread offense that is very good. Cory Schlee is their QB although he missed time with mono early in the year. He is a first year QB starter but did play WR last year. He hands off to Simeon Sabvute at RB.

Their go to guy in the air at WR is Bryce De Maille at 6’2, 225 who caught 52 passes last season, most of them well beyond the line of scrimmage. He averaged more than 16 yards per reception, providing the Bears with a vertical threat down the field along with 15 TDs.

On defense weak side linebacker Logan Carey is a three year starter and All-County. He is also their #2 WR.

Here is a preview of Oakdale before the season started from The Frederick Post

Here is an article from last week’s game, a win over Linganore

Kent Island QB Trent Jackson will need to have his best game of the year and the run game will need of course to aid him for balance. The offense needs to control the ball as best as they can and keep the defense rested because of how many fresh bodies Oakdale rotates in on offense.

I just think with the numbers, enough experience, the competition they play which is some of the best in the state and the fact this game is at Oakdale makes them the Bears a favorite to win.

Nandua, VA (3-4) at #10 Colonel Richardson (3-3)-6pm-This is another must win game for the Colonels who are looking at going to 4-3 for the first time since 2006. Once again though they need to get off to a fast start. Nandua’s defense has given up a ton of points and Colonel should be able to take advantage of that. The game is in Federalsburg, Nandua has to make the long drive this time. I like the Colonels at home to continue to fight hard for a playoff berth.

#12 Kent County (1-5) at #1-Locally, #22 State, North Caroline (6-0)-6:30pm-Not much has to be said here, Bulldogs roll big time at home.

#5 Cambridge-SD (3-3) at #8 Wicomico (3-3)-6:30pm-A great litmus test game for both teams who make up the middle tier of the Bayside that is totally up for grabs it seems. I am hearing though that Wicomico QB Lequan Petit might be out with a broken wrist. Wicomico has some really athletic players at the skill positions and their defensive front can pose some issues. The Vikings have won three straight but this will be their toughest test since Week 3. However they do have QB Tyler Harding back from injury for a second straight week and this is where their being battle tested with a tough early start to the schedule should aid them. I will lean Vikings at home especially if Petit is out but this one is a toss-up otherwise.

#11 Washington (1-5) at Arcadia (3-4)-7pm-This is one the Jags could win but their defense gives up just way too many points and this one is on the road. I have to give the nod to Arcadia but if Washington can eliminate any turnovers and possess the ball for long periods of time they have a shot no doubt. They did put up 26 against Wicomico.

Last Week’s Picks: 6-1

This Season: 35-8
