#5 Parkside (4-3) at #7 Stephen Decatur (3-4)-6pm-This should be a real good game with two physical teams doing battle. The Rams can match the physicality and size of Decatur’s defense and can match Decatur’s run game production although it won’t be easy. The Rams will get tested and need to have one of their better games in the trenches. The defense needs to step up and contain Decatur’s RB Tah’Jeem Woodland. The difference here is Rams QB Andrew Smith who is playing well and TE Tyler Poulson who is a pass game play maker. That said this game is a near coin toss.
#11 Washington (2-5) at #13 Snow Hill (0-7)-6pm-This is probably the best chance that Snow Hill has left to win a game and break a losing streak that goes back to October 2014. The Eagles get this game at home. This game should be high scoring and the one whose defense steps up and the team that wins the battle of attrition should come out the victor as both teams are battling numbers issues again this year. The Jags though know what it takes to win and have defeated two teams that Snow Hill has lost to this year. Certainly would not be surprised with an Eagles victory.
#3 Queen Anne’s (5-2) at #6 Wicomico (4-3)-6:30pm-Wicomico has flown under the radar this year but has eclipsed last year’s record and is showing a nice turnaround after struggling the last few seasons. This year’s emphasis on defense has paid off. This will be a game in which the Indians have more speed and athleticism. The Lions have won three straight and have been battle tested playing a much tougher schedule. This ought to be a good game and a close one. Do not be surprised if the Indians win. The Lions are 5-2 but very inconsistent on offense. The difference though their defense has been very solid despite returning just three starters. Both teams need to win to keep their playoff hopes alive. I lean Queen Anne’s but they better come to play.
#8 Cambridge-SD (3-4) at #12 Kent County (1-6)-6:30pm-What a difference a year makes with both teams in rebuilding mode. KC got the monkey off their back in the playoffs last year breaking their 25 game losing streak to Cambridge. The difference this year between both teams is Cambridge still returns several key skill guys including QB Tyler Harding. Both teams have played a tough schedule this year. This is a rivalry game. I give the nod to Cambridge who wants to erase last year’s loss in the playoffs, wants to beat their rival and is still in the 1A East playoff hunt. This will be no gimme as Kent County will bring their best but the Vikings should pull away sometime in the third quarter if not a little earlier.
#9 Easton (2-5) at #2 Kent Island (6-1)-7pm-The Bucs are coming off a loss to a tough non-conference foe on the road in Frederick to Oakdale in which they showed themselves well despite the final score. The Bucs are one of just two elite teams in the Bayside. Easton while battling hard this year despite injuries to some key positions including QB are just not at Kent Island’s level. Easton will bring it hard on defense but the Bucs on a short week and looking to get back in the win column in a very tough 2A East division with playoff seeding on the line should win comfortably.
#1 North Caroline (7-0) at #4 JM Bennett (5-2)-6:30pm-This is the Overtime Live Game of the Week on 94-3 WINX-FM and sfmsports.net, Pre-Game 6:15pm, Kickoff at 6:30pm. Listen to the game HERE
The Bulldogs are rolling and living up to all expectations that were placed on them this year. Their average margin of victory as David Insley of The Star Dem pointed out is 40-4 and NC is looking to win their 26th game in the last 28 tries. They have outscored opponents 341-28 and the defense has posted three shutouts.
While JM Bennett is having a real solid season they are not on the level with Caroline but then again who is this year other than maybe Kent Island. Bennett showed last week in their loss to Queen Anne’s that they still have work to do before they can compete against the best North teams but again that can be said of all the South teams. Caroline should roll on the road.
Northampton, VA (3-4) at #10 Colonel Richardson (4-3)-6pm-The Colonels are rolling and are right in the thick of it for a 1A East Playoff berth. I don’t know much about Northampton but I am going with the stronger conference, the team at home that doesn’t have the real long drive and the team that has playoff implications on the line and that’s Colonel.
Last Week’s Picks: 4-3
This Season: 39-11
