Bayside Picks: Week 10

November 3, 2017

#2 Kent Island (7-2) at #3 Queen Anne’s (7-2)-7pm-This is the Overtime Live Game of the Week on 94-3 WINX-FM and sfmsports.net, Pre-Game 6:45pm, Kickoff at 7pm.

You can listen live HERE

Kent Island has had two extremely tough games in the last three weeks against Oakdale (Frederick) and North Caroline. Frankly they simply lost to the better team each time. To me they are still a very good team and I don’t look at the Bucs as being any less even with those losses.

Queen Anne’s gets this game at home which certainly will help a young team in a big game. Both teams are well battle tested in the last three weeks although Kent Island has the edge having played two Top 20 teams in the state of Maryland…Both teams have QBs that can run and throw but Trent Jackson has about 3 more years of experience over SyRus McGowan and Jackson is looking for a bounce back game after the North Caroline loss. The Bucs offensive line was beat up front against North Caroline’s defensive line. I don’t see that happening again against a Queen Anne’s defense who gave up over 200 yards of rushing to Nayel Oge of Parkside. While Oge is one of the best backs in the Bayside no doubt that is unlike the Lions who will be playing against a very good offensive front this week as well.

Kent Island’s offense and experience should be the difference in the game. Secondarily the Bucs I think are a little stronger in the trenches and have the speed advantage. Kent Island has not gotten out to commanding leads in the first half of most games this year and that likely could be the case again in this one. If you’re the Bucs though you want to have this game in the bag by the 4th Quarter. Allowing the Lions to hang around will be a mistake.

#8 Stephen Decatur (3-6) at #13 Snow Hill (1-8)-6pm-While the Eagles would like nothing more to defeat their archrivals at home on Senior Day I think Decatur will have something to say about it. I expected a spirited game from the Eagles and I expect them to battle. I think the size, numbers and matching playmaking ability at the running back position will be the difference. Again though if you’re the Seahawks you can’t let the Eagles hang around in the 4th quarter.

#10 Colonel Richardson (6-3) at #1 North Caroline (9-0)-6:30pm-This one is for the Superintendents Cup. While the Colonels have had a real nice year there is no way the Bulldogs overlooking them for a number of reasons including that Colonel is their archrival, Caroline is looking to go undefeated in the regular season and most importantly maintain their #1 spot in the 2A East region for playoffs. The Bulldogs roll with a running clock.

#6 Wicomico (4-5) vs. #4 JM Bennett (6-3)-6:30pm-Another Salisbury Championship Series game and with a Clippers win they would capture the crown. More importantly with a win the Clippers could capture the top spot in the 3A East region. At worst a win likely keeps them entrenched in the #2 spot which ensures a home playoff game. Bennett expended a lot of energy and emotion in their win over Decatur on Saturday. These are kids so they should be able to bounce back energy wise on Friday. While Bennett may have some trouble containing Wicomico offensively, I think Bennett has enough on offense coupled with strong special teams to pull out a win. Do not at all be surprised if Wicomico though finishes the season strong in a win here. I’ll lean Clippers though on a semi-home field and big playoff implications on the line.

#5 Parkside (5-4) at #11 Washington (2-7)-6:30pm-The Rams playoff hopes were dashed in their 33-24 loss to Queen Anne’s. This team has a fair amount of talent and I know they are disappointed. That said knowing Head Coach Brendan Riley, he will not let the Rams let down in this one. They will finish strong wanting to go out on a winning note for the Seniors and completing their 4th straight winning season. The Jags may be able to put up some points but they will not be able to stop the RB machine that is Nayel Oge. Look for Oge to have a number of TDs in this one getting to his goal of 20 for 2017.

#9 Cambridge-SD (5-4) at #6 Easton (3-6)-6:30pm-There will be a lot of emotion in this one as its Senior Day for the Warriors and they want to close what’s been a tough season seeing their star QB go down in the first series of Week #2. They had high hopes of going to the playoffs only to see that dashed pretty quickly. There are also some extra motivating factors for them including beating their archrival and potentially knocking them out of a playoff berth.

The Vikings have the same and opposite motivation wanting to defeat their archrival and maintain their #4th playoff spot in which they are tied with Bo Manor. (Bo Manor has a tough matchup against the #3 seed Perryville.) If both teams lose it will come down to who has more bonus points meaning your putting your fate in the hands of others, the most hopeless feeling.

Cambridge has the experience at QB and features two very good backs in Molock and Bloodworth and WR Jimmy Schultz. Easton may down to just one back with any experience depending on Tre’ Banks health. That said Freshman QB Jarin Winters has gotten better as the season has rolled along and presents a run/pass option and he has plethora of receivers.

To me this game comes down to the fact that Easton despite the injuries has been tough, gritty and as competitive as they can be given the hand dealt to them this year. I give a lot of credit to the Easton defense keeping the team in the game when the offense has struggled with a freshman under center especially early on in the season. Cambridge has also had to dig deep to get to where they are which should make this game a real good one. Despite all Cambridge has on the line, I am going with the Warriors to get it done at home with some extra motivation to boot.

#12 Kent County (1-8) at Patterson Mill-Harford County (2-7)-6:30pm-Another tough game to call as I do not know much about Patterson Mill. However the Clippers have a fair amount of seniors with experience, they have played a tough schedule and they get this one at home. It’s still probably fairly close to a coin toss but I am going with the home team in this one.

Last Week’s Picks: 6-1

This Season: 51-13
