#10 Colonel Richardson at #5 JM Bennett-*4pm-The Clippers return a lot of offensive talent minus last year’s QB and have made the playoffs two of the last three years. The Colonels are coming off a playoff season as well but lost some key players from last year’s team. Bennett’s defense is a question but should be able to outscore Colonel’s offense.
#1 Queen Anne’s at #8 Cambridge-6:30pm-The Lions return a lot of experience and their Quarterback. The Vikings lost a lot of key players and have a new Head Coach. Al Waters is now coordinating Cambridge’s defense and not Queen Anne’s. While that will be a help (and is a big loss for Queen Anne’s), it’s not enough for the Lions not to be able to overcome. The Lions should have solid command of this game. The game is the ‘Overtime Live’ Friday Night Lights game of the week on 94-3 WINX-FM and sfmsports.net…Pre-Game 6:15pm and Kickoff at 6:30pm. #6 Wicomico at #2 North Caroline-6:30pm-The Bulldogs lost some outstanding talent last year and will take a step back at least initially from the last three years. They get a good test from a Wicomico team ready to take the next step forward. Until the South can prove they can beat a quality North team especially on the road I go Bulldogs. However this game will not be the one sided affair it’s been or would have been in years past. Win or lose this can be a statement game for the Indians. It will be interesting to see how the Bulldogs look coming out of the gate.
#7 Parkside at #11 Kent County-6:30pm-The Rams are not in rebuilding mode however they will have work to do this season. They kick things off against a team in rebuild mode with a new Head Coach. Despite the long trip the Rams should get a win to kick off the season.
#4 Easton at #12 Washington-6:30pm-The Warriors return a team with a fair amount of experience and although they have a new Head Coach, their old Head Coach Matt Griffith is still involved; in fact he is the OC. Washington lost a lot of experience and typically has low numbers. Easton shouldn’t be tested much in this game.
#3 Kent Island at #13 Snow Hill-6:30pm-The Bucs, a perennial power are not quite the team they have been in years past in terms of numbers (i.e. depth issues) and they are starting a Freshman QB with two new inexperienced backs. They will still be one of the upper echelon teams this year and return a fair amount of experience especially along the lines. This is the perfect game to break in a Freshman QB as the Eagles with low numbers, some key graduations and a new Head Coach find themselves in another rebuilding year.
#9 Stephen Decatur at Arcadia (VA)-7pm-The Seahawks are looking for their first winning season in 4 seasons. They lack depth but will play hard and should be decent in the trenches. I know nothing about Arcadia but I will lean with the 3A School over the smaller school in the Seahawks but I don’t think this will be a blowout.
