Numbers are OTL Power Poll then Playoff Seeding
#3 Elkton (9-2) at #1/1 North Caroline (11-0)-7pm-The Bulldogs are looking to get to the State Semi-final, a spot they got so close to in 2015 but ultimately fell to Walkersville at home on a late FG. Caroline was thoroughly handled on the road at Elkton two years ago in the second round of the playoffs. Last year a team many thought would go to the State Finals fell at home to Kent Island in the first round. The Elks come in with just two losses and those were to 3A teams. They also have wins over The Elks also defeated a higher seed on the road in Harford Tech, a team that was 9-1 coming into the game. Caroline’s defense has been stingy but they did give up 27 to Parkside last week at home in their first-round playoff win. I’m concerned that Elkton’s passing game will be an issue like it was two years ago although they do have different personnel. I am
also concerned if Elkton contains the run game how effective Caroline’s passing game can be. I think this game will be closer than it was a few years ago and Caroline played much better in the second half of that game although by that time it was too late. While I will be rooting for the Bulldogs and while this team might just surprise us all, probably the least likely thought to get State Semi-finals of the last four teams, they have a chance at home. However, I have to give the edge to the Elks.
#2 Chesapeake-Anne Arundel County (8-3) at #2/1 JM Bennett (9-2)-1pm-Bennett is having a special year and have exceeded expectations. They have speed, athleticism and can score multiple ways. Bennett came out of the gates strong last week and then after Long Reach got on a little bit of a roll came back strong again in the second half to roll at home 41-14. Chesapeake has scored over 100 less points but their defensive PA is very comparable. The Cougars have played several 4 4A teams, 2 3A teams and of the ten on their schedule, 4 of them are playoff teams, one of whom they played twice in rival Northeast-AA. Chesapeake has wins against both 3As and is 2-2 against the 4As. They are extremely battle tested. While I think this should be a competitive game, the Cougars I believe have faced better competition and proven themselves. While Bennett can win this game, this may be the better defenses they have faced this season. I just get concerned that what Bennett presents will not be something they have not seen. It will be an interesting game and certainly one Bennett can win with their offense and special teams. Again rooting of course for the Clippers but giving the nod to the Cougars.
Last Week’s Record: 2-2
Regular Season: 60-9
